Opened in 2018, the Heritage Mausoleum at Forest Lawn-Cypress was built as a continuation of the Early American Federal style of architecture that has been well established at both Forest Lawn and the City of Cypress. Our founder, Dr. Eaton, adopted this distinctive style as an expression of our nation’s pride and patriotism following the success of World War II. Today, this architectural masterpiece is the bold next step that continues his vision. The Patriots Chapel is the landmark centerpiece of the mausoleum. It seats 180 people and features a magnificent stained glass window of the Liberty Bell, an Italian marble floor medallion, pendant lights, and a spectacular chandelier — all under a breathtaking dome.

The 1924 landmark Spanish Renaissance-style Cathedral Tower at Forest Lawn - Long Beach is architecturally unique among all Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks. Designed by the Bryan family, and an architect named Clarence L. Jay, its style is carried consistently throughout both interior and exterior. There are exquisitely designed doorways and arches, magnificent Spanish windows in art glass, imported marbles, and tiling.

The firs photo shows the original arched stone entrance gate at Forest Lawn - Glendale, that Hubert Eaton (founder) entered through in late June 1912. In 1932 the world's largest wrought-iron entrance gates were installed, which is how we know them now. Although they each weigh 5,000 pounds, they are so perfectly balanced that they can be opened or closed with one hand.

In 1923, Forest Lawn held its first wedding in the Little Church of the Flowers between Cora Gregory Wells and Archie Milton Howes. Although Hubert Eaton did not foresee such a use of the church, it was a natural extension of the Forest Lawn Memorial-Park plan to provide services to the living. And, many couples who had been married at Forest Lawn, returned to christen their children.

Save the date for the next exhibit at Forest Lawn Museum, opening October 10th! It includes nearly 150 images and 14 minutes of video, as well as satellite models and drones. It examines the history of aerial photography, from its origins in the nineteenth century to the boundary-pushing technologies of the twenty-first century. The exhibition features historical footage from NASA, and the work of David Maisel, a 2018 Guggenheim Fellow in the Creative Arts. In addition, it will include photographs from Forest Lawn Museum’s permanent collection that have never been displayed as well as works from the Getty Research Institute, Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens. and the Special Collections of Los Angeles Public Library.
